MAKOPLASTY® Robotic Assisted Surgery

MAKOplasty® Partial Knee Replacement

MAKOplasty® is a robotic arm-assisted partial knee replacement procedure designed to relieve the pain caused by joint degeneration due to osteoarthritis. At Doctors Hospital of Manteca, MAKOplasty® is currently being used to treat the damaged part of the knee, while sparing the surrounding healthy bone and ligaments. This procedure is referred to as "partial knee resurfacing".

MAKOplasty® Partial Knee Resurfacing is designed to:

  1. Enable surgeons to precisely resurface only the arthritic portion of the knee and preserve healthy tissue and bone.
  2. Help facilitate optimal implant positioning to result in a more natural feeling knee following surgery.
  3. Allow for a more rapid recovery and shorter hospital stay when compared to traditional knee replacement surgery.
  4. Promote rapid relief from pain and return to daily activities.

If you have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the knee, you may be a candidate for MAKOplasty®. This innovative treatment option is ideal for adults living with early to mid-stage osteoarthritis that has not progressed to all three compartments of the knee.

MAKOplasty® – Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA)

MAKOplasty® Total Hip Arthroplasty is an innovative surgical option for adults living with degenerative joint disease. This procedure utilizes highly advanced, surgeon-controlled, robotic arm assisted technology. This system enables surgeons to achieve a new level of precision and accuracy when performing a total hip replacement. This innovative procedure may be ideal for adults living with either inflammatory or non-inflammatory degenerative joint disease.

MAKOplasty® Total Hip Arthroplasty benefits may include:

  • Relief from hip pain and stiffness.
  • More accurate placement of hip implants, which can reduce the risk of future dislocation.
  • Decreased risk of the implant and bone abnormally rubbing together- this may result in a greater life span of the implant.
  • Greater consistency in leg length, potentially decreasing the need for a shoe lift.

Who is a good candidate for MAKOplasty® Total Hip Arthroplasty?

Only a qualified surgeon can determine if you are a good candidate for MAKOplasty® Total Hip Arthroplasty. Typically, candidates for this procedure will experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Pain while putting weight on the affected joints.
  • Limping to lessen the weight-bearing pressure on the hip.
  • Hip pain or stiffness during walking or other impact activities.
  • Failure to respond to non-surgical treatments or pain medication.

Consider minimally invasive robotic surgery at Doctors Hospital of Manteca for pain relief and a quicker recovery. For patients who undergo MAKOplasty partial knee procedures, total knee replacement is still a possibility if needed in the future.
